before I sleep

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep." - Robert Frost

"Our minds are finite, and yet even in these circumstances of finitude we are surrounded by possibilities that are infinite, and the purpose of life is to grasp as much as we can out of that infinitude." - Alfred North Whitehead

Character

Some say we all are born as blank slates. Some say we all are born good. A fact is, we all go through situations in life when we feel vulnerable. Do these situations judge our character or do they actually create it ?

As we discussed the other day, based on my reading of the religious works, it appears that the counter is not reset at the time of birth, but we do carry with us "Purva Janma Vasanas" (traits from the previous birth). This is just like carrying Karma from one birth to another. Of course our character/ nature is not static and it does evolve based on our response to situations. But it's a continuous process, but not starting at only this birth.

I understood consider first birth as "the birth" and last death "the death" in the sentence. Then what is your opinion ?
